The light of Santa Lucia warmed many hearts this morning, spreading peace and good will to all🌟. In celebration of our festival of Santa Lucia, our 2nd graders shared the light of kindness, generosity, and hope with their sweet singing and treats. It is tradition for our 2nd graders to visit each classroom in a procession, giving the gift of warmth (and much joy!) to all in this winter season ahead🕯️

“Resilience is the product of agency. Knowing that what you do can make a difference. Athletics, playing music, dancing and theatrical performance all promote agency and community. They engage kids in novel challenges and unaccustomed roles.” - Bessel Van Der Kolk MD, author of “The Body Keeps the Score.”

Last night, we are so grateful to have been able to promote agency and community during our grades 3 through 12 instrument concert! In our Waldorf school, we all practice making music together. Whether it’s playing flutes in 1st grade, or starting strings in 3rd grade, or playing together as a band or orchestra in middle and high school - we practice listening to one another. We practice playing our own parts. We practice contributing to something larger than ourselves. We practice diligence, hard work, and patience. We practice feeling deeply. We practice seeing beauty. We practice coming together in harmony - strengthening ourselves as individuals, and building our incredible community!

Some simple sweet surprises were left in the kindergarten slippers this week in celebration of St. Nicholas Day🍊. St. Nicholas was known for his acts of generosity, kindness, and secret gift-giving. With a visit from our own St. Nicholas (thank you, Mr. Johnson!), together we shared the story of St. Nicholas, enjoying a gift of gingerbread and the reminder to hold onto the spirit of giving and kindness in the season ahead - spreading our gifts and goodness to all 🌟.

Today is the day- Colorado Gives Day. It is a time when we are able to stand together, invest in our community and our mission, and light the path forward for all of the wonder here at The Denver Waldorf School. As a non-profit, independent school, DWS humbly asks for support each year toward our Annual Fund. This year’s Wonder Fund campaign, Growing in Wonder, is all about recognizing how the seeds of wonder planted in the lower grades bear fruit in high school and beyond.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As we watched our 8th graders lead their 1st grade buddies through the Winter Spiral today, we were reminded of how deeply our Waldorf education is woven through this journey of growth in our students - how the guidance, care, and curiosity nurtured in the early years blossoms into confidence, leadership, and compassion. Your support helps this journey continue for every child who walks through our doors.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Wonder Fund is essential to our work, each year providing for teacher and admin salaries; tuition assistance; professional development for faculty; field trips, overnights, and special events; and all the daily things we do in school from the mundane to the magical. At DWS our goal of 100% family participation is just as important as reaching this year’s campaign goal of $350,000.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Remember that all unrestricted gifts $1,000 and more to DWS from Colorado donors may be eligible for the Colorado Child Care Contribution Tax Credit, allowing up to 50% of your gift returned to you as a tax credit.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Are you ready to stand with us and donate? Here’s one more reason to make your gift today - we have a $50k match opportunity for all gifts made today through Friday! You can give directly via link in stories. Thank you for your support, this year and every year! Together, we journey forward. 🕯️

The Children’s Shoppe at our Winter Fair is where children can truly shop and surprise their family with the gifts they pick out with all the thoughtfulness and care (and maybe find something for themselves too 😉). Our 6th grade elves will lead each child around the Shoppe to pick out any items that catch their eye, and then wrap and label the gifts to their choosing! Each item costs just $1, $2, or $3 😊 and it is cash only, so bring some 💵 for the children to spend wisely! Parents can wait outside of the Shoppe or receive a call when their children are done shopping! See you this SATURDAY for all the Winter Fair festivities (and Friday evening at UnWined, our adults only shopping event of our Artisan Market 😊). 🎁

For today’s Winter Fair highlight, you can look forward to all the magic that is to come at Elfland 🍄 ✨🍂🐚. With all the beautiful natural materials you can imagine (and plenty of hot glue), your child can dream up and create their own dwelling for all the little elves to enjoy!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And if you would like to help our Elfland architects in gathering natural building materials such as moss, pine cones, acorns, sticks, seed pods, dried flowers, shells, pebbles, stones, gems, etc - there are collection bins in the foyer awaiting your treasures!

New this year- adults can also take part in all the magic during UnWined! Each UnWined ticket also includes the opportunity to craft your own Elfland. We look forward to celebrating the season with our community this weekend!

Today is Giving Tuesday and our Annual Fund, Growing in Wonder, is underway!!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our Goals: $350,000 and 100% participation from our community.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Read on for a testimonial from Board member and DWS parent, Ryan Gregory:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Both of our children, Liam and Lara, started DWS in 1st grade. From the beginning we knew we wanted them to continue all the way through 12th grade and become DWS graduates. We followed through with that desire and it was one of the best parenting decisions we have made. Liam graduated last year and Lara is now a junior in the high school.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Liam is now attending Colorado College, his #1 choice, to study microbiology as a pre-med student and is thriving there. His experience in high school prepared him well for college and he has told us repeatedly that, while college is hard, it isn’t as much work as high school and so he feels prepared. Liam learned at the high school to build strong and close relationships with his teachers, a skill serving him well in college. He takes advantage of office hours to talk with his professors, uses the writing center, and has become an excellent self-advocate. Those are all skills I wish I had developed going into college!”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You can read his entire testimonial in School Director Kelly Molinet’s parent square post from yesterday.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Your gift supports a K-12 Waldorf education that fosters what it means to be human, cultivates lifelong curiosity and inspires a love for the world. Please give generously to our Annual Fund, Growing in Wonder, and support the education our world desperately needs. Comment DONATE and we’ll send you a direct link to give. We are so grateful for your generosity on this journey together.

It’s December 1st, and our halls have been decked over break thanks to our hard working elves (aka our facilities team with helping hands from Halle, Sissy, and Paul!). From hanging garland in every hallway, holiday mobiles and wreaths around every corner, and ornaments on all the trees- it is always a delight for our students to return to school in December with much festivity and magic! We look forward to all that is to come this month, especially our Winter Fair happening THIS weekend! See you at UnWined (our adults-only shopping event of the Artisan Market) on Friday evening and then for a full day of family festivities on Saturday!

With this being the week of our beloved Winter Fair, we thought we would highlight a different activity each day leading up to next weekend! First up is the fan favorite and most often visited - Cookie Heaven 🍪!

You will definitely make use of the “unlimited” feature of the activity wristband with repeat visits to Cookie Heaven 😋. This Winter Fair favorite is hosted by our 7th graders - they always create a magical journey for our young students! The angels will lead a few students at a time through the heavenly path of more than 50 dozen homemade cookies to choose from! A dream come true. Remember to pre-order your activity wristband by tonigit at midnight! Pickup will be at will call on Saturday. You can also purchase them at the fair! Activity bracelets are $25 before the event; $30 the day of!
