MEET THE SPARTAN VOLLEYBALL COACHES

Michaela Luna

Spartans girls high school volleyball Head Coach Michaela Luna is a Colorado native and a DWS alum who attended The Denver Waldorf School from age five until graduating in 2009. Michaela played varsity volleyball all four years of high school and helped lead the Spartans to the playoffs her junior and senior years. She attended Charleston Southern University in South Carolina where she played Division 1 volleyball on an athletic scholarship while earning a bachelor’s degree in graphic design with a minor in fine arts.

“I am so excited for the opportunity to be coaching for the school that helped raise me,” she said.

Michaela began her coaching career  with a competitive club team in South Carolina and she went on to coach Juggernaut Volleyball in Denver.

“My love for volleyball came from my Mom,” she exclaimed. “I remember my Dad and I would watch her play every Saturday. Those are some of the best memories I have!”

Albany Luna

Albany Luna is from a small farming town in Colorado where sports was life. She began playing volleyball at the age of nine and played as a varsity starter all four years during high school, as well as playing on the all-star regional team. Albany is married to John Luna, who happens to be Michaela’s first cousin and another DWS alum. Albany and John’s beautiful children attend DWS – Cashous is in 5th grade and Lillyauna is in 2nd grade.

“I am so thankful to have the opportunity to help coach and learn from the next wave of Spartans!” she said.

AT THE HEART OF DENVER WALDORF SPORTS

Our athletics program aims to reclaim youth sports for what they once were and always should have been: fun, communal and participatory. There are no tryouts or cuts, even through high school. Instead, each athlete is inspired to reach their highest potential, contributing to the team through enthusiasm, hard work, grace, and resilience. Every athlete has their place on our teams.
