Sports Summer Camp

During the month of June we offer volleyball and basketball camps for rising 6th through 9th grade students.

About DWS Summer Camp

Denver Waldorf weekly programs offer students (ECE through entering 8th graders) an enriching, adventure-filled, go-to-bed-tuckered-out summer they won’t soon forget. Ingredients include outdoor play, art, rhythm, mindfulness, creativity, mayhem, snow cones, pooltime, sprinklers and more. Summer as it should be!

Early Childhood (ECE) — Children ages 3 ½-6

The magic of early childhood is kept alive as the children explore a different weekly theme through whimsical story, circle time, simple crafts, and activities led by Waldorf ECE teachers. Oodles of outdoor play included! The rhythm of weekly activity includes: Wednesday afternoon playtime in sprinklers, Thursday morning onsite pooltime, walks to local parks, snow cone Fridays, and so much more!

Lower Grades

Children of the lower grades get a taste of freedom as they venture just beyond the DWS campus. The daily rhythm includes themed activities and crafts, walks, free play, afternoon jaunts to the Harvard Gulch outdoor pool, and all kinds of novelty fun peppered throughout the summer such as snow cone parties and playing in the sprinklers!

Upper Grades

Children of the upper grades are inspired to push the envelope with audacity, creativity, and imagination.  Citywide exploration, bold adventures, and permission to push past their own boundaries will have them stretching into their best selves.

Week One: June 14-18

ECE: Art Playshop

From watercolor to upcycled crafts, this week is chock full of creativity, movement, art, and fun playing under the sun!

Entering 1st-3rd grade: Wood, Wax, & Wool

A Denver Waldorf favorite! Appealing to the senses in creating with natural materials, whistling while we work in the woodshop, sculpting with wax and trying our hand at a few different wool projects.

Entering 4th-7th grade: Fine Art & Upcycled Crafts

Find beauty and art in all that surrounds us with this trash-to-treasure week. We’ll transform the useless into fine-art masterpieces: take-home crafts made from junk mail, corks, lids, plastic bags, and more.

Week Two: June 21-25

ECE: Fairytale Wonderland

Fairy tales come to life through interactive storytelling — in typical Waldorf fashion! Plus, a full lineup of whimsy, creativity and games that stoke the fire of imagination.

Entering 1st-3rd grade: Witches & Warlocks (NEW!)

What does it mean to be a modern witch or warlock? We’ll dip into folklore, learn how to forage and use urban weeds for craft and healing, seek wisdom that comes from nature, track and observe animals, and discover the magic that lives in stones.

Entering 4th-7th grade: Witches & Warlocks (NEW!)

What does it mean to be a modern witch or warlock? We’ll dip into folklore, learn how to forage and use urban weeds for craft and healing, seek wisdom that comes from nature, track and observe animals, and discover the magic that lives in stones.

Week Three: June 28-July 2

ECE: Shimmy, Wiggle, & Roll

A week full of exploring opposites — silliness and stillness, silence and clamor! Animal yoga, therapeutic movement, hula hoops, listening, whistling, breathing and more!

Entering 1st-3rd grade: Got Games?

This week is all about fun while learning the capacities of our bodies! We’ve got plenty of entertainment up our sleeves to help the children practice boundaries, self-control, self-mastery, fairness, and teamsmanship in a new way!

Entering 4th-7th grade: Urban Survival Skills

Got what it takes to survive on your own? Cooking with a self-started fire, foraging, archery, rope making, whittling, and much more now-that-you’re-older skill-building fun!

Week Four: July 12-16

ECE: Green Thumbs

Dig gardening? A week of hands-in-the-dirt, grow-your-own-food goodness! Gardening basics, planting a school garden, take-home herb garden and terrarium and more!

Entering 1st-3rd grade: Urban Green Skills

It’s not easy being green! But with Ben Reynolds as a fun guide, children will explore the amazing world of gardening, composting, land stewardship, and beekeeping in the city.

Entering 4th-7th grade: Street Art with Mike Graves

Back by popular demand! Design and spray paint a wall mural, and make DWS history with local street artist Mike Graves (@mikeroane)! Plus, tour RiNo district murals for inspiration! Register early; this will fill! Full day option only.

Week Five: July 19-23

ECE: Slime Slingers & Muddy Fingers

Get covered head to toes! Finger painting, mud pies, slime, bubbles — we’ll even eat a special treat with no hands. Extra clothing and the will to spill required!

Entering 1st-4th grade: Slime Slingers & Muddy Fingers

One of more most popular camps! We are saying yes to mess, wooey to gooey, icky to sticky (you get the idea!). Mayhem marked by food fights, color wars, mud pies, and rooftop sundaes.

Entering 4th-8th grade: Adventure Week

Something for everyone!  Say yes to mess, archery, upcycled crafts, and escape rooms, plus travel into the city and surrounding areas to find urban adventure (Covid-19 restrictions permitting)!

Week Six: July 26-30

ECE: Splish, Splash, Water Bash

Summer heat meets Water Week! From watermelon to watercolor and wet felting to water tables. No (dry) child left behind!

Entering 1st-4th grade: Water Week

Going out with a splash! Our camp finale guarantees wrinkled fingertips, watermelon popsicles, snow cones, sprinklers, slip and slides, and a surprise giant water blob!

Entering 4th-8th grade: Adventure Week

We continue our adventure from the previous week with new activities involving fire, improv games, circus arts, and more! Plus, more saying yes to mess and dabbling in archery.
