What an enlightening first evening of senior project presentations we had last night thanks to our Class of 2025. Be sure to join us again tonight at 5pm for round two! The senior project is an opportunity for our students to pursue a new area of interest or something that will stretch their abilities- intellectually, physically and/or emotionally. After many months of hard work and determination, they each present their journey to the community - sharing their challenges, new learnings, and growth. With topics ranging from vintage motorcycle restoration, search and rescue, music composition, and an inside look at surgery, it is always inspiring to hear how they each persevere, push themselves to new limits, and find their way with patience and persistence. May we all remember to journey as they do with open hearts, and to pursue new experiences “for the story” (as one of our seniors shared).

The shared snacks in our kindergartens are an integral part of our daily and weekly rhythms. It is another element that brings consistency and predictability to the children, helping to foster a sense of comfort and security in their world around them. The children often know the days of the week by our snack, asking “is it soup day?!” instead of asking “is it Wednesday?!”

On soup day, the children start the morning by coming around the table ready to have a hand in purposeful work. They chop the vegetables together, with everyone contributing to the shared meal. It is a time for our little ones to understand how our food is made, to participate in meaningful work, to work on their fine motor skills, to appreciate the entire process and all of the smells and tastes that go with it, and to celebrate the importance of gathering around the table.

Coming together in harmony. As you stroll our halls, you will hear singing, string instruments, pentatonic flutes, and more. Music is an integral part of our Waldorf education, with instrument playing as part of the curriculum in all grades. The musical journey begins with flute playing in 1st and 2nd grades, and then transitions to recorders and strings in 3rd grade. In these early years, they will cultivate their listening, make simple melodies together in a playful way, and stir that deep appreciation of musicality within each of them for years to come.

Our 2nd graders started a kindness chain as a visible reminder of the good ❤️. At the end of each day, Ms. Krakauskas asks the children to share moments of kindness they have observed over the course of the day. They then add a link of decorated paper for each act of kindness that was noticed, shifting the focus to see the good. It is so heartwarming to see the many enthusiastic hands sharing simple yet impactful acts of kindness. With the ever-growing chain around the room, it is a wonderful reminder of the kindness that builds our community and culture.

What a joy it is to see the enthusiasm and love for circus arts! Congratulations to all of our performers in today’s Circus Club performance. And while we of course marvel at the aerial stunts, juggling on the rolling globe, and mastery of the unicycle, we know that the performance is not the sole focus of their practice. Rather, it is the gained confidence, trust in others, perseverance, courage, and of course FUN in movement that is the heart of our circus! 🎪

Our 12th graders recently visited the Colorado State Capitol to enhance their experiential learning as part of our Earth Economics block. In this course, the students take a deep dive into key economic concepts with care and consideration for planetary resources and global governance.

A trip to the Capitol brought their lessons to life, as they attended a lobbying presentation by Colorado’s American Civil Liberties Union — witnessing firsthand how key policy issues are debated within our legislature. The students even had a chance to share notes with Colorado’s legislatures about issues they care about! Our students wrapped up their day with a tour of the Capitol, as they continued to explore various economic and environmental policies relevant to Denver. We are heartened to see our high schoolers embracing their roles as future leaders in our community!

Our 7th graders took us on a fantastical woodland adventure in their production of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” A story for the ages, “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” is a riveting play filled with music, love, and magic. Like the C.S. Lewis novel of the same name, the show follows the four Pevensie siblings in the English countryside who discover an old wardrobe; one that leads to the magical, snowy world of Narnia. Through their journey, the four children must fight evil, trust each other and, most importantly, believe in themselves. We’re grateful for these lessons shared through theater - where the physical embodiment of story comes to life and literally and figuratively moves us as human beings.

This is why the arts are an integral part of our Waldorf curriculum. Some often think that this means that Waldorf schools are “art schools” or are only for students interested in pursuing the arts. However, the way that the arts are integrated into our learning is for all- it’s to foster creativity and imagination, it’s for the beauty and joy they bring to learning, it’s for the vitality they bring to our development as whole human beings. It’s to experience becoming.

Our Class of 2025 has been working hard over this past year on their senior projects, and we’d love to have you join us next week for the culmination of their learnings! They have each embarked upon an independent exploration of a topic of interest, and sought a mentor in the field to support their studies. While it is impressive to hear what skills they have learned and the knowledge they have gained, it is always most inspirational to hear what they have discovered about themselves through their work. Some of the presentation topics include “Behind the Closed Doors: An Inside Look at Surgery,” “American Garden: Six Months on a Political Campaign,” “Ode to Waldorf: Writing Musical Compositions,” “Adventures in Search and Rescue,” “Restoration of a Vintage Motorcycle,” “Curating at the Contemporary Art Museum,” and many more!

This year we will have two evenings of presentations on April 2nd and 3rd starting at 5 pm. Each evening will showcase different presentations and will run for approximately 2.5 - 3 hours. Join us for all or part of an evening! We look forward to hearing more about each of their journeys.

6th grade dolls are beginning to spring to life in our fiber arts classroom! Fiber arts are an integral part of our curriculum. After learning to knit, crochet, and weave in the early grades, students continue with embroidery and cross-stitch, doll making, felting, and culminating in machine sewing as they progress to 8th grade. Over the years, many functional and beautiful projects come to life with their busy hands - all the while developing diligence, resilience, pride in their work, and their creative spirits!

Welcoming the season with a visit from the Spring Princess today in our kindergartens🌸! The children sweetly sang songs to put King Winter to sleep and wake up the Spring Princess, who then presented each child with a daffodil ☀️. Embracing the rhythm of nature is an intentional part of our days, connecting the children deeply to the world around them. By marking each passing season with wonder and delight, we hope to foster much curiosity and gratitude for nature’s many gifts!

Take a peek at “History Through Architecture,” a grade 12 block. In this course, students explored how the structures humans built are a reflection of the consciousness of that time period in history. We surveyed architecture from prehistory through the Industrial Revolution, with their focus culminating in a selection of a modern architect to study in greater depth. In groups, students designed a structure incorporating influences from each of their architects and built a model to represent their ideas, which they then shared with the whole class. Be sure to check out all of the projects on display in the high school!
