What a day! The energy was electric yesterday as we closed out the school day with a school-wide pep rally to celebrate our sports program (where every athlete has a place on our teams!) and especially the accomplishments of two of our senior basketball players.

We honored Cayden Quinn who hit the milestone of 1,000 career points last year (making him part of .5% of high school athletes nationwide who achieve this so early). He is also the all-time leading scorer in DWS history! Cayden paved the way and reminded us that these milestones are built through shared dedication, commitment, and enthusiasm for the team.

Then, we were able to witness Henry Lottridge hit his own 1,000th career point at last night’s game! Even through a broken shoe mishap, Henry and the team persisted to bring this milestone home. With an eruption of cheers, hugs, and celebration - our gym was filled with pride, gratitude, and plenty of Spartan spirit.

It’s moments like these that remind us that success is perseverance, teamwork, and a community that celebrates one another. Congratulations to Cayden, Henry, and all of our Spartans🌟

An incredible milestone. A community journey. A love for the game.

What a thrill it was to witness senior Henry Lottridge hit his 1,000th career point tonight alongside his supportive teammates, family, coaches, and community.

Main lesson is the heart of our mornings in our Waldorf elementary classroom. It’s an extended, unhurried block of time where learning is integrated rather than divided - writing, art, storytelling, movement, and imagination are woven together to bring learning to life.

Shown here is our 4th grade classroom. As students prepare for their upcoming animal projects, they have been honing their observational skills and formal writing techniques. Our interdisciplinary approach encourages them to translate their observations into structured narratives, weaving in art to bring it all together!

Engaging head, heart, and hands, their lesson comes alive in meaningful and lasting ways.

This is how we begin our days - grounded in rhythm, creativity, and intention.

What happens when students are given one constraint and total creative freedom?
They become inventors!
Our 11th graders designed sustainably powered devices as part of their Electromagnetism block, and then pitched them like pros as part of their final projects. The only constraint they were given was that the device must be sustainably powered. From a human generator to a solar and wind powered mixer to an ionic thruster and more - it was wonderful to see their learning, enthusiasm, and creativity come together!

With patience, care, and repetition - light is formed 🕯️. This morning, our younger grades (along with 8th grade buddies!) celebrated Candlemas by dipping candles together.

Candlemas marks a subtle but powerful moment in the year - the time when the light, though still quiet, begins to return. Deep in the earth, seeds are stirring, sap is beginning to move, and the long inwardness of winter slowly turns outward. Through the shared act of candle making during this festival, the children experience the gift of returning light with one careful dip at a time ✨”

The story of “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton came to life on our stage this week through the powerful performance of our 8th grade class. With depth and heart, our students explored themes of belonging, identity, class conflict, and the shared humanity beneath it all. Their work served as a poignant and timely reminder that, at our core, every human being longs to be seen and understood.

Join us for their final performance tonight at 6pm.

What if college readiness wasn’t just about getting into college - but about knowing who you are and where you’re headed?
In this week’s episode, “What’s up with College Preparedness?” School Director Kelly Molinet explores how The Denver Waldorf School prepares our high school students to thrive in college and far beyond. She’s joined by Adam Newman, DWS High School Mathematics and Physics Teacher, and Meeri Baldwin, DWS Next Steps Coach, as they dive into the shared belief that the true purpose of education is to cultivate free-thinking, healthy human beings.

Listen in to find out how our high school experience reveals to students how to identify their passions and share them confidently with the world. From hands-on support with college essays and career practicums to transformational senior projects, the Next Steps program alongside the full DWS high school experience equips students not just for college acceptance, but for meaningful, thriving lives well beyond our campus. 117 post-it notes. Each square created by one of our high school students. Each one unique in color, style, and perspective. When viewed closely, the stark differences are clear. But together, their shared vision becomes a whole - one of peace, love, and justice.

This tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s legacy now sits in our high school hallway, greeting us each morning with the reminder of how we should go about our days. His moral courage and his words calling for change live within us.

Guided by his example, it is up to each of us to show concern, interest, and love for one another. It is our responsibility to bear witness to what is happening in the world, to elevate the voices of marginalized people, and to break down structural prejudice in all forms. And as educators, it is the honor of our every day to be able to empower our students to continue this work themselves as they step into the world.

It’s Friday, which means it’s Jazzercise day for our middle schoolers 🎵🎶! Our middle school electives are a weekly highlight with the start of Jazzercise with Ms. Gray! Not only does Ms. Gray work with our middle school students on sentence diagramming, topic sentences, and quote analysis as our language arts teacher, she now also teaches them how to chassé, plié, and do rib slides! It is a wonderful outlet for movement, fitness, and fun 😊.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our middle school students spend a portion of every Friday afternoon participating in mixed-grade elective classes. Recent elective offerings include gardening, creative writing, games, and school newspaper. They have been a welcome addition to our weekly rhythm in middle school!

Experiencing fermentation as part of their biochemistry block with a lab in pickle making 🥒. Our Waldorf high school science curriculum is truly hands-on: students do, and then reflect. They think through “what do I know?” and “how do I know it?” By breaking down concepts like fermentation into real experiences, learning becomes meaningful, memorable, and in this case, tasty too 😋!

Learning is not passive in our classrooms, but rather it is alive, engaging, and deeply meaningful. Rather than traditional textbooks, students create their own main lesson books. These compilations of their learning go beyond note taking - they are the culmination of a student’s experience of the subject. Written compositions and illustrations come together with individual artistic expression to process, strengthen, and bring joy to learning.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Pictured here is a peek into the 5th grade block studying ancient Persia, Mesopotamia, and Egypt where mythology gives way to history, geography, and culture.

Today we encouraged our community to make it a day “on” rather than a day “off” to honor the work and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We are so grateful for our students, families, and teachers who were able to come together to make a DWS presence in the Martin Luther King Jr. Marade (march and parade) from City Park to the Colorado State Capitol. It was an inspiring day of unity as we spread the message of social justice with love and peace. As educators, it is the honor of our every day to be able to empower our students to continue this work themselves as they step into the world. 💫
