Dia de los Muertos at The Denver Waldorf School

Día de los Muertos

One of the greatest assets as an urban Waldorf school is our diverse community. A dear member of this family is Elvira Sevilla. A native of Mexico City, she shines a light on the traditional rituals of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) for our 3rd graders.

First Grade Readiness Q&A on January 20, 2021

Led by longtime Waldorf educators Nancy Blanning and Jessie Cartwright, this presentation gives prospective families a feel for what lies at the heart of Waldorf education.

First grade is a child’s introduction to the collective being of a class. We nurture a deep reverence for the earth, compassion for classmates, and a healthy respect for every living thing. From knitting to numbers, fairy tales to falling leaves, we help first graders discover the wonders of our world and understand the rhythm of life. This year is the beginning of a multi-year relationship with their teacher.

Preschool and Kindergarten Q&A on October 28, 2021

Renowned experts in early childhood education, Laurie Clark and Lori Daniels discuss the benefits of Waldorf education for children between the ages of 2 1/2 and 6 years old.

Preschool & Kindergarten Enrollment & In-Person Tours

We are currently enrolling preschool and kindergarten students and offering in-person group tours. Connect with Admissions Manager Brooke Camfield to learn more.

Head, Heart, and Hands: Early Childhood Education Panel

Learn more about the magic of our Early Childhood Education program at The Denver Waldorf School with this panel led Lead Teacher Laurie Clark. During this virtual Q&A, she and fellow ECE educators will cover:

  • Daily rhythms
  • The benefits of Waldorf education
  • How the Waldorf curriculum supports early childhood development

About Our ECE Program

In our classrooms, children gradually become accustomed to working within a group, listening to stories, interacting with a teacher, and following a daily routine, while at the same time being supported in his or her development as an individual through the encouragement of creative play, practical life skills, and artistic opportunities.

Each teacher deeply understands the young child and the need for movement, as well as the child’s devotion to learning about the world through imitating everything he or she experiences. We follow seasonal rhythms and in parallel, honor your child’s gradual transition from home to school and childhood to adulthood.

About Laurie Clark

Laurie Clark has had the privilege of being a Waldorf early educator since 1978.  She incorporates her therapeutic training into all aspects of the classroom and is in continual research through observation and constant engagement with the young child. The deep question of how to meet the child of today and exploring their needs in practical applications lies at the heart of her work. Laurie mentors teachers, is a frequent conference presenter and has co-authored two books with Nancy Blanning on therapeutic movement for young children.

About Lori Daniels

Lori Daniels has a lifelong love of children. For more than thirty years, she has worked diligently to support young children and their parents, the past fifteen of those as a Waldorf early childhood teacher. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education Administration, as well as a Waldorf Early Childhood teaching certificate. Lori has studied and understands the importance of movement and age-appropriate activities to guide children in their home and school environments.

In her free time, Lori enjoys hiking, gardening, traveling, and continuing to study children’s developmental needs. She is also the proud mother of two sons ages 22 and 25.

About The Denver Waldorf High School

Founded in 1994, The Denver Waldorf High School is a high achieving school that allows students to explore academics, arts, movement, world language, community service, and travel. We structure our schedule and curriculum to prepare students for lifelong success by nurturing character development and their intrinsic motivation to excel. We know that people learn best when they have a chance to examine a subject from many perspectives, and to apply their new knowledge functionally. That’s why we create a space where students are encouraged to experience our curriculum not just as information, but as tools with which they can build their lives.

At this time, we are offering in-person tours and virtual shadow days. To learn more about either our high school or the admissions process please reach out to Admissions Manager Brooke Camfield at [email protected].
