Maria Augusta Fuentes
Spanish Teacher
With 24 years of teaching experience, Maria Augusta Fuentes has dedicated her life to nurturing children through creativity, curiosity, and care. Inspired as a child by watching her parents teach and witnessing the impact they had on others, Maria Augusta knew early on that education was her calling.
Her teaching journey in the United States began in 2001 at La Petite Academy, where she spent 12 years before moving to Denver Language School for another 12 and a half years. She now brings her deep experience and love of learning to The Denver Waldorf School. Drawn to Waldorf education’s emphasis on art, nature, hands-on learning, and community, Maria Augusta treasures the opportunity to work in a holistic environment that fosters not only intellectual but also emotional and spiritual growth.
In the classroom, she creates a joyful and engaging Spanish-learning experience through stories, poems, history, songs, and conversation. She especially values giving children the confidence to express themselves and connect with the wisdom of the past. With a degree in accounting, a year of nursing studies, and certification as an assistant nurse, Maria Augusta also brings a unique ability to care for children both academically and practically, with compassion at the heart of her work.
Born in Quito, Ecuador, Maria Augusta has lived in Colorado for 25 years. She and her husband of 43 years have three sons and five beloved granddaughters, along with three “granddogs” who add joy to family life. In her free time, she enjoys tending to her roses and indoor plants, as well as shopping for the delight of discovery.
Her favorite Waldorf tradition is the December Fair, which she sees as a celebration of warmth, creativity, and togetherness. Above all, Maria Augusta hopes her students leave her classroom with confidence, kindness, curiosity, and a genuine love of learning.
