Mary Ray
ECE Associate
Mary has been part of Waldorf classrooms for 25 years, through parenting, volunteering, and teaching full- and part-time. Before raising her children, she worked in social work, supporting families.
Mary knew she wanted to become a teacher when she first stepped into a Waldorf kindergarten. Struck by the beauty of the classroom, she found herself lingering each time she dropped her children off, never wanting to leave. That experience inspired her to pursue teaching professionally.
What Mary loves most about teaching is witnessing the childrenโs awe, curiosity, and joy in discovery. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and has attended numerous Waldorf conferences and trainings throughout her career, while also learning directly from experienced colleagues in the classroom.
Her love of the outdoors and hands-on experiences comes from her childhood on a farm in Wisconsin, and she enjoys sharing those stories and adventures with her students. Originally from near Chicago, she has found Colorado and the Rocky Mountains to be the perfect place to raise her family. She enjoys hiking, exploring nature, and strolling through the charming neighborhood near the school.
Mary has three daughters, all of whom began their education in Waldorf kindergarten. Two graduated from The Denver Waldorf School, and one continued through ninth grade. She is now a grandmother, and her daughter dreams of her child attending a Waldorf school.
Maryโs favorite Waldorf tradition is the Lantern Walk, which she loves for the sense of community it brings. She delights in seeing children and families walk together, singing and sharing their light, and imagines how special it must look from the neighborsโ windows.
