SUMMARY:Adventures in Anthroposphic Education
DESCRIPTION:Adventures in Anthroposophy by Candlelight: The Significance of the Winter Spiral and the Profundity of the Winter Solstice Season \nPresented by current 7th grade teacher Keenan Hand. \nImmediately followed an opportunity to walk the adult winter spiral\, beginning at 6PM\, so stick around! \nWalking the Winter Spiral is a Waldorf Tradition that is celebrated as the days grow their darkest.\n\nThis event is a reminder that within each of us is our own light and beauty- so that we may move forward in the darkest season ahead\, radiating our gifts with one another\, and contributing to make the light. \n  \nAbout Keenan Hand: \nKeenan strives to awaken as a person with consciousness and compassion. This inspires all that he does as a teacher who aims to weave playfulness\, creativity and human-wisdom into each lesson. The intangible relationship between teacher and student is the golden thread that brings school to life. \nKeenan has taught middle school – sixth to eighth grades – at the Olympia Waldorf School before carrying a class from first grade to eighth grade here at The Denver Waldorf School where he is currently teaching a class in the middle school grades. He holds a bachelor of Art Education from Humboldt State University and completed three years of teacher training and other studies at Emerson College\, UK. \nSome formative experiences include living abroad in countries such as Chile\, Italy\, England\, and Ireland. Summers are often spent hiking in the mountains and building trails in National Parks. Currently\, picking on a mandolin and biking his daughters to school along the river trail brings many moments of joy. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate: Tuesday\, December 9th\nTime: 5:30 PM\nLocation: Festival Hall\nChildcare and dinner provided for kids: RSVP needed by 10 AM on 12/8  to ensure we have enough food and support for childcare

SUMMARY:Adult Winter Spiral
DESCRIPTION:Walking the Winter Spiral is a Waldorf tradition that is celebrated as the days grow their darkest. Each person walks the Winter Spiral together\, taking turns to quietly carry an unlit candle along a spiral evergreen pathway leading to a single lit candle at its center. As each candle is illuminated\, it is brought outward and placed along the spiral- expanding the light and shining brightly together for those that follow. It is a reminder that within each of us is our own light and beauty- so that we may move forward in the darkest season ahead\, radiating our gifts with one another\, and contributing to make the light

SUMMARY:Adventures in Anthroposophic Education
DESCRIPTION:Adventures in Anthroposphic Education Movement and Anthroposophy- A Family Affair\n\nHow does the Waldorf curriculum support non-traditional learners? How does movement support strong reading skills? Movement Specialist Faustina Pfister and Reading Specialist Milandra Pfister discuss the ways developmental movement and reading acquisition intersect\, and share a glimpse into how anthroposophy shapes alumni and teacher biographies.\n\nAbout the speakers:\n\nWith 25 years teaching at the Denver Waldorf School\, and as a parent to two alumni\, Faustina Pfister observed the impact of movement on children’s academic success as a 1-8 grades teacher.\n\nFaustina’s first encounter with Waldorf education was as a kindergarten student herself—the first time she remembers feeling truly seen\, held by the warmth of a teacher. Later\, witnessing a sibling struggle with learning differences deepened her interest in how children learn in diverse ways.\n\nAs a grades 1–8 teacher\, she noticed that students who struggled academically often faced challenges with movement\, including coordination\, balance\, and bilateral integration. She came to see how rhythm supports math learning and how crossing the midline strengthens language development.\n\nInspired further by her own daughter’s learning journey\, Faustina transitioned out of the classroom to focus on therapeutic movement\, offering children embodied pathways to learning that support the whole child.\n\n\n\nMilandra Pfister is wrapping up her seventh year at The Denver Waldorf School\, where she brings both structure and heart to her work as a Reading Interventionist. A Waldorf alum herself\, and daughter of a Waldorf teacher\, Milandra grew up surrounded by education. Milandra is passionate about helping children access the joy and freedom that comes with reading. She’s especially attuned to the emotional journey of students who struggle with literacy\, celebrating each breakthrough and building their confidence through patient\, individualized instruction.\n\nIn her classroom\, Milandra uses a mix of learning games\, manipulatives\, and lesson variation to keep things dynamic and engaging. Her approach draws on the thinking\, feeling\, and willing framework central to Waldorf education.\n\nMilandra hopes her students leave her care not only with strong reading skills\, but also with a deep sense of self-trust\, the confidence to advocate for their unique learning styles\, and a lifelong love for reading- whether for knowledge\, empathy\, or just plain fun.

SUMMARY:Adventures in Anthroposphic Education- A Conversation of Curiosities and a Life's Work in Waldorf Education
DESCRIPTION:*Please RSVP Below \nDear DWS Families\, \nWe are excited to invite you to our fifth talk of the year in our Adventures in Anthroposophic Education series on Wednesday\, April 29th at 5:30PM.  \nAdventures in Anthroposphic Education – A Conversation of Curiosities and a Life’s Work in Waldorf Education with Waldorf icons and pioneers\, moderated by Charlie Orphanides \n\n\nThe culmination of over 200 years of combined Waldorf wisdom together in one room\, for one night. The stars aligned and we are the beneficiaries of the light they’ll produce.\nHear from the educators that have dedicated not only their careers\, but their lives\, to Waldorf education and who have played pivotal roles in the school we entrust our children to.In an education that centers and deeply nurtures curiosity and a love of learning – not just the outcome or the discovery\, but the process itself – how are teachers engaged in this process\, how does knowing form within them\, and how do students stand to benefit? After our moderator’s nearly 20 years immersed in this education – exploring\, experimenting\, modeling\, and guiding – what curiosities remain to seek the wisdom of our panel? Come find out!\nIt’s a conversation sure to reveal both enduring insights and questions that continue to inspire.\n\nMeet the Panel\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIna Jaehnig – High School Teacher and School Founder \nIna Jaehnig’s life journey has been deeply intertwined with the roots and growth of Denver Waldorf School. Born in 1943 outside Munich during World War II\, Ina experienced Waldorf education from an early age in Stuttgart\, where the Waldorf School had reopened after the war. In 1971 she moved with her family to Colorado. Soon after\, they began a small kindergarten in their living room\, gathering families and sharing Waldorf educational ideals. In 1974\, alongside her husband Diethart and fellow pioneer Joan Condon\, Ina helped establish the Denver Waldorf School\, teaching full time and nurturing the young school through its early moves and challenges. In the early 90’s\, she was invited to become a member of the pedagogical section and to join the AWSNA board\, contributing to the development of Waldorf education beyond the local community. Over the decades\, she has continued to shape Waldorf education locally and internationally while remaining a beloved teacher and guiding presence at the Denver Waldorf School\, where her dedication still supports the life of the school today.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTom Clark – Honorarium Teacher\, High School Art and Middle School Physics Teacher \nTom Clark has been a grade school teacher at DWS since 1985 and has taken three classes through the grades. Since 2010\, he has been teaching art and science in the high school and science classes in the middle school. Tom brings experiential learning to the students through hands-on projects and with activities bridging the worlds of art and science. He is a Waldorf teacher trainer and mentor.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLaurie Clark – Waldorf Mentor & Author \nLaurie Clark has had the privilege of being a Waldorf early educator since 1978. She incorporates her therapeutic training into all aspects of the classroom and is in continual research through observation and constant engagement with the young child. The deep question of how to meet the children of today and exploring their needs in practical applications lies at the heart of her work. SUMMARY:5th Grade Pentathlon
DESCRIPTION:Every spring in a Waldorf school\, the 5th grade class studies Greek civilization\, learning about the government\, history\, mythology and culture. As a culmination of the students’ studies\, they participate in a Pentathlon\, which is an athletic event based on the ancient Greek games. As with all aspects of our Waldorf curriculum\, the event is designed to relate directly to the students’ learning and development\, bringing relevancy and enthusiasm for their studies. Grouped into five City States- Sparta\, Athens\, Corinth\, Ithaca\, and Thebes\, the students compete in the following events: \n\nLong run\nLong jump\nDiscus\nSprint\nJavelin\nWrestling\n\nThroughout their training and also on the day of the event\, students observe the nobility\, compassion\, and uprightness of each athlete. This also provides an alternate understanding of competition to what is often displayed in our modern popular culture.\nIn preparation for the festivities\, the students also write odes to their favorite Greek goddess or god and recite their compositions to those gathered as part of the opening ceremonies. The ritual opening\, with the lighting of the torch and the offering of poems\, very much sets a beautiful tone for the day. While the children put forth their best efforts in achieving results in speed and distance\, more important is their display of grace\, beauty\, and form. \nPre-order lunch\n\n \n \n \n \n Email\n \n Product Name Quantity\n \n \n Price:\n $15.00\n \n \n Quantity \n Credit Card\n American ExpressDiscoverMasterCardVisaSupported Credit Cards: American Express\, Discover\, MasterCard\, Visa\n \n Card Number\n \n \n Expiration Date\n \n \n Month\n \n Month010203040506070809101112\n \n \n \n Year\n \n Year20262027202820292030203120322033203420352036203720382039204020412042204320442045\n \n \n \n \n \n                                                 \n Security Code\n \n \n \n Cardholder Name
