SUMMARY:Head\, Heart\, and Hands: Early Childhood Education Panel
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nLearn more about the magic of our Early Childhood Education program at The Denver Waldorf School with this panel led Lead Teacher Laurie Clark. During this virtual Q&A\, she and fellow ECE educators will cover: \n\nDaily rhythms\nThe benefits of Waldorf education\nHow the Waldorf curriculum supports early childhood development\n\nAbout Our ECE Program\nIn our classrooms\, children gradually become accustomed to working within a group\, listening to stories\, interacting with a teacher\, and following a daily routine\, while at the same time being supported in his or her development as an individual through the encouragement of creative play\, practical life skills\, and artistic opportunities. \nEach teacher deeply understands the young child and the need for movement\, as well as the child’s devotion to learning about the world through imitating everything he or she experiences. We follow seasonal rhythms and in parallel\, honor your child’s gradual transition from home to school and childhood to adulthood. \nAbout Laurie Clark\nLaurie Clark has had the privilege of being a Waldorf early educator since 1978.  She incorporates her therapeutic training into all aspects of the classroom and is in continual research through observation and constant engagement with the young child. The deep question of how to meet the child of today and exploring their needs in practical applications lies at the heart of her work. Laurie mentors teachers\, is a frequent conference presenter and has co-authored two books with Nancy Blanning on therapeutic movement for young children. \nAbout Lori Daniels\nLori Daniels has a lifelong love of children. For more than thirty years\, she has worked diligently to support young children and their parents\, the past fifteen of those as a Waldorf early childhood teacher. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education Administration\, as well as a Waldorf Early Childhood teaching certificate. Lori has studied and understands the importance of movement and age-appropriate activities to guide children in their home and school environments. \nIn her free time\, Lori enjoys hiking\, gardening\, traveling\, and continuing to study children’s developmental needs. She is also the proud mother of two sons ages 22 and 25. \nRegister to reserve your spot!\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_raw_js]JTNDc2NyaXB0JTIwY2hhcnNldCUzRCUyMnV0Zi04JTIyJTIwdHlwZSUzRCUyMnRleHQlMkZqYXZhc2NyaXB0JTIyJTIwc3JjJTNEJTIyJTJGJTJGanMuaHNmb3Jtcy5uZXQlMkZmb3JtcyUyRnNoZWxsLmpzJTIyJTNFJTNDJTJGc2NyaXB0JTNFJTBBJTNDc2NyaXB0JTNFJTBBJTIwJTIwaGJzcHQuZm9ybXMuY3JlYXRlJTI4JTdCJTBBJTA5cG9ydGFsSWQlM0ElMjAlMjI1NTI3MTY5JTIyJTJDJTBBJTA5Zm9ybUlkJTNBJTIwJTIyYzVhOGNjMjctMDYwMy00ZWQ2LWFlZTUtYjVkMzAxMzFjMWNmJTIyJTBBJTdEJTI5JTNCJTBBJTNDJTJGc2NyaXB0JTNF[/vc_raw_js][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Please register to reserve a seat. \nWhat You’ll Learn\nThe founding principles of Waldorf education are to help the child develop a strong sense of self along with a sense for the community.  The DWS Diversity and Inclusivity Committee works to help fulfill this mission in light of our various identities: racial\, ethnic\, religious\, gender\, sexual orientation\, ability\, and more. \nDuring this webinar\, the panel will also cover: \n\nHow and why we developed a Diversity and Inclusivity Committee\nPast and current efforts\nHow you can become involved\n\nAbout the Panel\nAbout Vernon Dewey\nVernon has been working at The Denver Waldorf School since 2008\, assisting in the 1st and 2nd Grades before taking on the 1st Grade as class teacher in 2010. He attended Evergreen State College and graduated with a Master’s in Education and a Waldorf Teaching Certificate from Antioch University of New England in 2010. In addition to teaching at The Denver Waldorf School\, currently as 8th Grade Teacher\, Vernon also serves as a founding member and co-chair of the school’s Diversity Committee. \nAbout Magally Luna\nNearly 20 years\, Magally joined the DWS community to teach Spanish. Today\, she serves in the elementary school as our 4th grade teacher. “I bring a diverse curriculum to my class of cuties\,” she says. She has been on the school’s D&I Committee since its inception\, starting with conversations with Laurie Clark in the Morning Glory classroom. She is the founder and co-chair of AWSNA’S BIPOC affinity group\, — supporting Waldorf teachers of color throughout the nation — and she has taught BIPOC stories\, songs\, and movement from the Americas at several national conferences. \nAbout Mahdyeh Nowkhandan\nMahdyeh Nowkhandan is a new DWS parent and member of the D&I Committee\, and has recently become one of the leads on the new Denver Waldorf Racial Justice Parent Group. She has a background in advocacy work and racial justice\, as well as elementary education — including social-emotional and special education. She is a recipient of the Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Award\, and still she views herself as a life-long learner\, non-expert\, and an always growing member of the BIPOC community. \nAbout The Bridge\nThe Bridge is a bimonthly webinar series hosted by The Denver Waldorf School on the benefits of Waldorf education. SUMMARY:POSTPONED: Parenting Gender
DESCRIPTION:POSTPONED\nThis event has been postponed. Please check back for updates! \nAbout Our Panelists\nWaldorf educator Nancy Blanning is joined by Ryan Bittinger and Sondra Locket to discuss how to walk with your children as a compassionate and supportive companion. Moderating by Jenny Thompson. \nAbout Waldorf Educator Nancy Blanning\nNancy is a Waldorf early childhood educator\, parent\, and grandparent of nearly 40 years and specializes in supporting healthy development for young children. This includes physical and sensory development but also holds a deep concern that every child be accepted for his/her/their individual expressions in this life. She is also a Waldorf teacher trainer\, mentor\, consultant\, author\, and conference presenter.  \nAbout Sondra Lockett\n“A mother\, a wife\, a daughter\, a friend and a working professional\, but is there such a role as a professional mom?  I am blessed to have two children that have taken me on two completely different journeys. Over the last 15 years\, I have learned more from my children than I could ever teach them about being true to oneself\, practicing patience\, offering compassion and letting the world unfold as it should.  For the last 4 years\, my family has been led on a trans journey by our youngest child that has further opened our hearts\, expanded our minds and created an extraordinary and necessary shift in our family dynamic.”                                                                                          Sondra \nAbout Ryan Bittinger\nRyan Bittinger is a Psychotherapist recently returned to his home in Colorado after studying and working in Scotland. He has experience working with young adult students (16 +)\, including trans and queer youth. His specialty in the therapy world is helping adults heal from trauma. Ryan is also queer and nonbinary\, and has been a queer activist for about a decade\, offering basic training for others about how to work with the LGBTQ+ population. As a researcher\, Ryan also explores how queer folks make sense of their place in society and within the queer community. \nAbout The Bridge\nThe Bridge is a bimonthly webinar series hosted by The Denver Waldorf School on the benefits of Waldorf education. By connecting one another\, we aim to join in the worldwide effort to educate for humanity. \nAbout The Denver Waldorf School\nThe Denver Waldorf School is an urban pre-K through 12 independent school in Colorado. Founded in 1974 on Rudolf Steiner’s humanitarian curriculum\, DWS believes education should foster what it is to be human\, cultivate lifelong curiosity\, and inspire a love for the world. We are currently enrolling for in-person learning: \n\nPreschool and kindergarten (ECE)\nElementary school\nMiddle school\nHigh School\n\nWant to learn more about us? SUMMARY:The Denver Waldorf School Financial Aid and Tuition Adjustment Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Workshop and Live Q&A\nDo you have questions about DWS tuition adjustment and scholarships? Please attend our financial aid workshop with Business Director Laurie Thompson and Admissions Manager Brooke Camfield to learn how to apply for the 2021–2022 school year. \nDate: Saturday\, December 19 \nTime: 9-10am MST \nLocation: Online via Zoom \nThis workshop is open to currently enrolled and prospective families. Please scroll down to register and reserve a seat. \nWhat You’ll Learn\nDuring the workshop\, Laurie and Brooke will cover: \n\nTuition adjustment (TA) process (applications\, review\, and deadlines)\nScholarships\n\nThe Denver Waldorf School is committed to economic diversity. The Board of Trustees\, College Leadership Council\, Faculty\, Administration and parents work together to raise funds\, volunteer\, and make challenging budgetary decisions to keep tuition within the financial means of the largest possible group. We seek to establish financial relationships that are healthy for the school and the families within our community. \nAbout Tuition Adjustment\nAt DWS\, we recognize that many families want the inspired learning environment that an independent Waldorf education provides\, and that this type of education requires a significant financial commitment. Therefore\, DWS budgets a significant portion of income to our Tuition Adjustment Program\, but the budgeted funds are limited. All families who wish to provide Waldorf education for their child(ren) are encouraged to seek the means to make this education a viable option. \nDWS expects families to exercise their best creative efforts to use their own financial resources before turning to the Tuition Adjustment Program. It is not uncommon for a DWS family to pay 15 to 20% or more of their income for tuition. This percentage applies to both full and reduced tuition families. Tuition Adjustment is not based on willingness to pay\, but on one’s ability to pay. Special circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis. \nAbout The Denver Waldorf School\nFounded in 1974 on Rudolf Steiner’s humanitarian curriculum\, DWS believes education should foster what it is to be human\, cultivate lifelong curiosity\, and inspire a love for the world. Want to learn more about the benefits of Waldorf education? Join us online during one of our many virtual events. \nDWS is also currently enrolling preschool\, kindergarten\, elementary\, middle and high school students. If you haven’t met us yet\, we invite you to tour our school to see the Denver campus and chat in person! \nWebinar Registration\n[vc_raw_js]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[/vc_raw_js]

The high school experience aims to balance the students’ academic needs with their longing to find meaning in the world. \nEngaging Body\, Intellect\, and Emotion\nAt the start of each day\, movement helps spark students’ circulation and bring them together. They then engage in a long\, uninterrupted seminar (referred to as main lesson in elementary and middle school) to activate their minds\, followed by music and elective classes to spark emotional expression. Music classes and elective courses promote the development of healthy emotional expression through creation. \nHigh School Music\nRegarding music\, all high school students participate in chorus\, with the option to participate in either music ensemble or orchestra until their senior year. Students new to DWS and who have not played their instrument before are strongly encouraged to take private lessons. \nHands-On Learning of Real-World Skills\nStudents apply what they’ve learned theoretically to scenarios in the real world. For example\, a study of soil composition could be applied to a chemistry lesson on acids and bases\, as well as a close reading of The Grapes of Wrath\, and a course in black-and-white photography in which they learn to develop their own film. \nRhythm of Thinking\, Feeling\, and Willing\nOur goal is to expose our high school students to academic wealth\, and demonstrate to them that all knowledge is valuable to encourage their pursuit of wisdom throughout life. \nThe high school curriculum revisits themes and subjects periodically to strengthen functional knowledge. Students cultivate their ability to think critically\, organize ideas and information\, and clearly present thoughts through an academically challenging mix of math\, English\, humanities\, physics\, life sciences\, chemistry\, world language\, practical\, industrial and fine arts\, chorus\, orchestra\, drama\, and physical education.
