Preschool & Kindergarten The Denver Waldorf School
Play, Rhythm, Community
The Denver Waldorf Early Childhood Program (for children ages 3½ to 6 years old) is structured to provide a gradual transition from the life of the home to the structure of an elementary school. We consider childhood to be a valid and honorable experience, not a time to be rushed.
Child-Centered, Play-Based
Our joyous child-centered early childhood programs foster imagination, social harmony, and curiosity while building essential skills for elementary school and beyond. Each day’s gentle rhythm alternates between teacher-guided activities—like crafting, cooking, and singing—and ample time for imaginative free play.
Social and Screen-Free
Our early childhood programs foster warm social relationships and emotional skills through guided games and group activities, social play, and a culture of empathy and care, modeled by our teachers. We don’t use educational technology in the classroom, emphasizing real-world experience and human interaction throughout the school day.
An Environment Rich in Language
Our early childhood classrooms are rich in language. Through stories, songs, fairy tales, and puppet shows, teachers carefully nurture essential pre-literacy skills like comprehension, oral communication, mental picturing, and vocabulary, laying the groundwork for reading and writing in elementary school.
Meaningful Movement
Every day, teachers lead students in kinesthetic activities, music, craftwork, and games that naturally foster their physical and cognitive skills. Practical, real-world tasks—like sweeping the floor, chopping vegetables for soup, clearing up our toys after play time—add meaning to their work, teaching children to care for their surroundings and their community.

Exceptional Faculty
Our preschool and kindergarten teachers are warm and nurturing caregivers. They are also highly experienced Waldorf-trained educators who understand and respect the young child during this crucial phase of development. Warm, dedicated, creative, and caring, our teachers put students at the center of everything they do.
A Classroom That Feels Like Home
Our early childhood classrooms are tactile, warm, and inviting spaces, lovingly designed with the young child in mind. There are cozy rugs on the floor, curtains on the windows, a generous stock of blocks and toys, and in-class kitchens where a homemade snack is prepared every morning.
